An explosion was heard, caused by an improvised explosive device targeting a car on the road leading to the People's Palace in Damascus, followed by heavy gunfire in the area. The intended target is still unknown.

A statement issued by the Syrian Ministry of Interior: Security personnel tasked with securing the protests today were subjected to attacks in the city of Latakia, in addition to targeting incidents in the Tartus countryside carried out by groups linked to remnants of the former regime, while the personnel were performing their duty of protecting demonstrators and maintaining order.
