The Ministry of Interior announced that a successful security operation dismantled an active ISIS terrorist cell in Deir ez-Zor province, resulting in the arrest of its leader and several members. The cell leader, identified as Abdul Fattah, attempted to throw a hand grenade he possessed, but the swift response of the security forces enabled them to subdue and arrest him before he could carry out his plan. During the operation, a child present in the house was injured and transported to the hospital for treatment. The operation also neutralized Attallah, the group's assassination chief, before he could detonate an explosive belt he was wearing. Haider Jad'an al-Jassem was also arrested, and weapons, ammunition, and explosive belts were seized from members of the cell. Initial investigations revealed the cell's responsibility for several crimes in the Baghouz and Sha'fah areas of the al-Bukamal countryside, including the assassination of a member of the Diplomatic Security Service on Eid al-Adha, the planting of an explosive device inside a shop that resulted in the death of a security officer, and the targeting of an Internal Security Forces vehicle with an explosive device. Investigations are ongoing with the detainees in preparation for referring them to the competent judicial authorities, and the pursuit of all those proven to be involved. They also fired a mortar round and a smoke shell nearby, with no reported casualties.
